In December 2007 I was retrenched from a high-pressure foreman’s position in manufacturing. With the financial crisis, it was near impossible to find work. I decided to study aged care, which led me to Corpus Christi Community for my four-week placement. It changed the course of my life.

After my first day working at Corpus Christi Community on placement I knew I had stumbled upon something special, and wanted to work here after my placement was finished. I was later offered a traineeship, which I accepted. Now, eight years on I have got my Certificate IV in both Aged Care and Disability, and have a senior role as a carer with Corpus Christi Community.

I love hearing stories from the men about their younger days, but the biggest buzz I get doing this job is helping the men feel at home, and that they are respected and they have worth.
